SLURP (Syncopated Linguistic Urban Rhythm Project) is a rhythm dance company in New York City that combines various styles of tap dance with live musicians, vocalists, and other forms of movement. As a forward thinking company, SLURP combines, mixes and fuses forms of dance to explore new genres and techniques that are foreign to many audiences. This exploration is very important as it continues to keep dance, as an art form, continuously in motion, changing, and expanding. Their current projects focus on fusing modern and tap dance.

Their next full evening of work will be presented this May and, using tap dance as a base, explores the differences between tap, ballet, modern, contemporary, and even hip-hop. The interdisciplinary structure that SLURP is built on, allows for dancers from all walks of life to share and collaborate in creating new work. Headed by Artistic Director Adam Metzger, SLURP performs all over NYC, but is continuously dedicated to giving back to the community. Recent benefit venues have included DRA, Save Haiti, and Katrina. SLURP has also performed at various showcases at STEPS on Broadway, Chelsea Piers, The NYC Tap Extravaganza, Lincoln Center, The 45th Street Theater, Columbia University, and more. SLURP’s goal is to expose the movement and music of tap dance to the wider dance community through fusion of styles, and exploring what it means to: define a genre of dance.
